Listen to this awsome song by Stephen Curtis Chapman about adoption. Will you pray about loving a child from a foreign country, who has no Mom or Dad? Who needs you to love them? to take care of them? Maybe this is a way that you can help fulfill the command of Jesus to care for the widows and the orphans? And, to fulfill the Great Commission? Wouldn’t it be something if a lot of Christ-Followers would adopt these children, and teach them the Gospel of the Lord Jesus? Will you at least pray about it?

David Worley, Gina Welch in her book “In The Land Of Believers” spoke positively of adoption by evangelicals as consistency with stated moral principles.
On page 61, she writes, “What was unspoken here was that this was buttressing for the argument against abortion–if pro-lifers were going to present adoption as a viable option, they had better be willing to open their homes. These were people trying very hard to live by their principles.”
And again on page 174, there is a quote from a Pastor Woody’s wife Lacey (not real names I suspect, but a good quote), “If you’re going to be against abortion, you’ve got to be willing to adopt.”
Gina Welch is a secular Jew who went “undercover” at Thomas Road and pretended to be a Christian. In my opinion, she wrote a great book about her experiences at Thomas Road Baptist Church. Everything she said was not necessarily positive, but this is one of the positive quotes in the book and reads like a commendation to people she new at TRBC who were consistent and dedicated to principled opposition to abortion to the point of actually following positive alternatives.
So, even she would say you have a great idea, here, I think.
David,
I appreciate this post. This song is especially poignant. My brother and sister-in-law have adopted a little girl from China. Her name is Myah. She has been a part of our family for a little over four years now. She is God’s blessing to them and to the rest of our family as well. Certainly Christians who advocate for LIFE will oppose abortion and advocate adoption.
Sola Gratia!
“Will you pray about loving a child from a foreign country, who has no Mom or Dad?”
How about a child from right here in the USA? Lots of children here need to be adopted.
JND,
That is true. But, there’s a whole lot more orphans in foreign countries, and it seems that adopting a child here is difficult… from what I hear, anyway.
