SBC Time! Pray!

I just wanted to write a quick post to ask all of our readers to pray for the SBC as we meet next week. We ask for your prayers. We want the Lord to bless our time together. We want God’s presence to be felt in a strong and real way. We want God’s wisdom and guidance in all that we decide. We need for the Holy Spirit to guard our tongues and dominate our minds as the speakers preach, and as people discuss business, and as we fellowship in the halls and hotels and restaurants. We want the Spirit of God to be thick in Orlando as we witness to people, and as we interact with people in Orlando. Please pray that the Lord will renew our vision and our determination to reach the world for Christ. Pray that the Lord will give us the hearts we need to win souls. And, pray that God will move in such a way that there will be unity and harmony as we leave Orlando.

My prayer is that we’ll leave Orlando with this heart:

“If sinners be damned, at least let them leap to hell over our bodies. If they will perish, let them perish with our arms about their knees. Let no one go there unwarned and unprayed for.” – Charles Spurgeon

    David,

Good word. I hope I run into you there in Orlando sometime. I hope you weren’t offended by my ragging on the Vols over on Tim’s post. Though I am a Gator football fan from way back (just like my dad was), more than anything else (in sports, that is) I am a Memphis Tiger basketball fan. On either count, no love lost with the orange-colored folks. Isn’t it amazing that, in Christ, we can still love and respect each other, though?

  2. David,
Great quote. Praying for the SBC.

What I find striking about this year’s convention and the “big vote” that will characterize it is that…

    1. Everyone with whom I speak wants to accomplish the same thing (revival, greater CP giving, better efficiency), but…

    2. People passionately disagree as to which pathway will lead us there (pro-GCR or anti-GCR).

I guess, #1 being true, after it all shakes out we’ll either all be equally thrilled with the outcome of this year or equally disgusted with it!
