2nd VP Brings out Small Church Interim

The following article is given to us from Tommy Fountain, Director of Missions of the Mulberry Baptist Association and also an Evangelist whose ministry is Fountain of Joy Ministries.  Brother Tommy believes strongly in Brother Ray Newman.  I personally have met him and will be casting my ballot for him.  Enjoy the article.

Why I am Nominating Ray Newman as Second Vice President of the SBC…

Rev. Ray Newman

I am absolutely ecstatic about nominating Ray Newman as the Second Vice President of the Southern Baptist Convention in Orlando, Florida.  Since I will only have three minutes during the nomination speech, I want to share with the readers the importance of electing Ray Newman as the Second Vice President, and why I am nominating him.

Our nation is in a mess!  With all the struggles we are facing as a nation, we need a voice in a leadership role within our convention that understands the political issues of the day.  That voice is Ray Newman.  He is a history buff and a political genius.  As a Georgia Baptist Convention Specialist in Ethics and Public Affairs and a Trustee of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the SBC, Ray is conservative theologically and politically.  He knows the issues, he knows the people, and he knows how to get the conservative Christian voice and views at the forefront in the political world.

Ray Newman is my mentor!  My Daddy was a bi-vocational Baptist pastor who went home to be with the Lord twenty eight years ago.  The Lord placed in my life Ray Newman.  He loves the Lord, he loves people, and he especially loves younger preachers.  In my thirty one years of ministry Ray has celebrated with me in the good times, but he has also cared for me in the bad times.  He is confidential and trustworthy.  He has never tried to take my Daddy’s place, but he has certainly been a father-figure to me.  When you know and love a man with the Godly character of a Ray Newman, it is an honor to have the privilege to nominate him.

Ray Newman is a mighty man of God!  For over fifty years now he has been extremely faithful as a preacher of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  He has served at every level of Southern Baptist life with distinction and integrity.  Ray Newman was conservative when it wasn’t cool to be conservative.  His love for the Lord is demonstrated daily by his love for his family, his commitment to his friends, and his dedication to his faith.  He is a Spirit filled man of God with Biblical convictions that has impacted the lives of many saints and won many sinners to Christ.  When I spend time with Ray Newman, I always know he has spent time with the Lord.  I know his heart, and I know he is a great Baptist statesman in Southern Baptist life.

With all the above being stated, that is why I am nominating Ray Newman to serve as Second Vice President of the Southern Baptist Convention!  I encourage you to join with me during the Tuesday night meeting of the convention and cast your ballot for Ray Newman.

Amen! I know Ray Newman and can’t think of a better man to serve Southern Baptists. Ray Newman’s intelligence is amazing, his wisdom remarkable, and his heart is full with love for the Lord and the Lord’s people.

  3. David Worley says:

    Tim,

I will certainly pray about this. I’m planning to vote for Jimmy Jackson for Pres., Vance Pitman for 1st Vice Pres., and maybe for this man for 2nd.

The time is definitely drawing near…only 4 more days until we leave for Orlando.

    David

Thanks for posting Tommy Fountain’s letter re: Ray Newman. Tommy was spot on, and I have personally witnessed of what he wrote. Let me add my own commendation of Ray. We have many great leaders at every level of Southern Baptist life, but none better than Ray Newman. We can expect Ray Newman to do many great things, and we can always expect him to do the right thing. He has served as a church planter, pastor, state convention Sunday School leader and men’s ministry leader, and now as public policy leader for Georgia Baptists. Ray never speaks of himself or his accomplishments, but he is always in demand by others to share his thoughts and wisdom. Southern Baptists will not make a mistake by voting for Ray Newman, and they will bless the convention with many virtues and gifts by electing Ray for this post.

  5. Mike Griffin says:

I know Ray Newman to be a man of great character and integrity. He truly loves the Lord Jesus and finds great delight in serving Him. Bro. Ray knows and understands the problems that we face as a church, a convention and a country. It is for such a time as this that we need men like Ray Newman in leadership! God bless you brother!

  6. Rodney Queen says:

    Praying for Ray.

  7. cb scott says:

Ray Newman is the right man for this present hour in the SBC.

  8. Larry C. Houk, Jr. says:

Ray Newman will be a great choice for second vice president of the SBC. His years in the ministry and his experience with state and national issues make him a great choice. I have known Ray for many years and am aware of his devotion to his family, his church, his state, our nation, but most of all to our Heavenly Father. I hope that messengers at the convention will give serious consideration to voting for Ray. He is a dedicated follower of our Lord & Savior and a servant to all.
