According to Alabama Baptist news Dr. Jimmy Jackson announced he will allow his name to be nominated for President of the Convention in June. Dr. Jackson has served Whitesburg Baptist Church in Huntsville, Alabama for the past 31 years as Senior Pastor. According to their latest CP, Whitesburg Baptist forwards right at 5% of their six million dollars received in undesignated funds to the Cooperative Program. Whitesburg also supported the 2009 IMB Lottie Moon Christmas offering at the amount of $236,735. The ACP also reports that Whitesburg supported the 2009 Annie Armstrong Easter Offering with an offering of $138,548.
It looks like this race just got interesting.

Thanks for the information. This could be a very interesting election.

Melanie B. Smith of the ‘Decatur Daily’ quotes Jackson:
‘ “We are trying to be realistic. More and more people are without jobs. Even if they are tithers, 10 percent of zero is nothing,” he said. ‘
Sounds like he might not be a sheep-beater in pursuit of money.
If this is true, then I do wonder what he is like, and if he might be good for the SBC in its present condition. Imagine, someone who understands what people are going through and respects that, in making decisions.
Jimmy Jackson is needed in SBC life “for such a time as this.” Jimmy is a consistent encourager of ministers–loving preachers and trying to help them along.
Jimmy Jackson is a faithful Southern Baptist, serving in an exemplary manner as President of the Alabama Baptist Convention, trustee at SWBTS, Parliamentarian at many SBC annual meetings, 1st VP of the SBC, and other leadership positions.
Jimmy Jackson was involved with electing Adrian Rogers in 1979. Jimmy Jackson is an original conservative resurgent–Jimmy knows where we came from and where we need to go.
Jimmy Jackson is a humble man–no airs of “big shot” around Jimmy Jackson. While he has an earned Th.D. (before the change to Ph.D) from New Orleans Seminary, he is “Brother Jimmy” to his church.
This Alabama Baptist would hitchhike to Orlando just to vote for Jimmy Jackson for President of the Southern Baptist Convention
John,
Good to hear all the things that you mentioned about Jimmy Jackson. That’d make me want to vote for him.

Hi JOHN KILLIAN,
Just to let you know what is going on . . .
when I clicked on your ‘name’, my system told me that I was clicking on an ‘attack site’ and my systems blocked your site.
I don’t know if you are aware of something going on , or if anyone else has reported this to you. I hope no one has manipulated your site.
Good luck. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I would sincerely want to know if it was happening to me.
anti spam word: kindness :)
Hopefully, this will be straightened out before day’s end. Thanks
John, I’m glad I told you about it. I didn’t know what to do, so I prayed about it first. I hope all will be well for you.
Christiane
I met Jimmy Jackson in the early 1980s during the CR. He is a sincere man and would make a great convention President. I do not know the other candidate, so I am not committing. But Jimmy would be super.
John Killian, it’s good to see you blogging. Hope you are well.
I’m curious what Jackson’s position is on the GCR proposals thus far. My impression is that many in Alabama are not fond of the GCR proposals.
