I agree with Bill that the churches are for many reasons dependent upon money and have sacrificed the doctrine of baptism just to have money flow into the church in order to pay the bills. This is unfortunate, but a reality of the fascination with buildings.

We are members of the Tennessee Baptist Convention and known as “at Large”, since the association in our area is very weak and not working to plant churches in the inner cities. So we are focusing on those inner city areas while working with the Convention.

I agree with Robin that associations need to be revived in the sense of getting the dead wood out, and getting some fire started on the wood fueled by the Holy Spirit. I have been involved in Associations that have made sense in Texas, but for the most part Associations seem to have become in many parts of the country simply a club like atmosphere ….where it is more of “come see” what we are doing….instead of “lets go” and work with God.

Our Director of Missions was concerned that many of our churches would simply assume that the elected leaders of our convention were strong supporters of the Cooperative Program, and he wanted to make sure that they were aware of the comparatively low percentages given by the churches to which many of the GCRTF members belong.

The ultimate purpose of the resolution was to express our strong support for the CP, and to imply our opposition to any proposals that would fundamentally change it in favor of churches who give primarily to “Baptist causes” rather than through the CP.

After the resolution was adopted, a motion was offered that we mail a copy of the resolution to both the convention president and the task force chairman. It, too, was unanimously adopted, with applause…

Thank you for posting the resolutions of the respective organizations. I enjoy reading resolutions and the intent of such.

In the Frisco resolution, what is the purpose of pointing out the discrepancy of the giving percentages of the appointees beyond the obvious statistics? I would be interested in learning how the resolution was shaped and a little of the discussion.
