It's a shame the title "Cooperative Baptist" is already taken. Titles like "We Don't Want Anyone to Know What We Believe Baptist" or "We Don't Really Care About What We Believe Baptist" are just far too long.

I'm against changing the name simply because the title Southern Baptist means something. People are not offended by the regional title. They are offended by the evangelism and doctrine that the title has come to represent.

As the old argument goes, nobody boycots WESTERN Sizzlin, because of its name. If people stay away, it is only because of the food that is served up.

John Daly,

I agree with Tim's comments that we have tried to reach outside the Bible belt, but I also think that we should be doing a lot more. I hope one of the changes that will result from the work of the GCR taskforce is to get more of our mission dollars out of the Bible Belt and into lesser reached areas.

Personally, I favor "LifeStone" or maybe "Guideway" for a new name for the convention. The less it means, the better. Meaning divides; slogans unite.

Sorry fellas, I do not feel the SBC has been trying to reach out to people outside of the South. For the record, I consider the Midwest NOT reaching out. As a native Vermonter what in the world do I have to do with the "Southern" Baptist Convention? Why not change the name to the Christian Baptist Association? Would you not rather have Christ in our name than Southern? I would.
