On February 22 – 24 Immanuel Baptist Church of Perkins, Oklahoma will be hosting a Baptist Distinctives Conference. Dr. Bart Barber, who will be the program speaker, will be joined by Jonathan Blackmon (Southwestern PhD. Student in Music), Bob Shelton (Stewardship/Cooperative Program Specialist for the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma), and Dr. Tom Owens (Cimarron Baptist Association Director of Missions)
There will be no cost for the conference, but a love offering will be received for the speakers. Lunch will be provided on Saturday, but we will also need a RSVP to have a proper head count for food. Please call the church office at (405) 547-1222 to let us know you will be with us. If you desire to stay Friday night for Saturday’s portion, there are several hotels in Stillwater which is just twelve miles north of the church.
Below is a tentative itinerary for the conference. Jonathon Blackmon will be leading music before each session.
Friday:
7:00p-7:50p – What is a Baptist (General overview of our distinctives and history): Dr. Bart Barber
8:00p-8:50p – How Baptists do Church/Ecclesiology: Dr. Bart Barber

Thank for the question. I hope to have the outline notes from the speakers posted on this site. I also hope to video tape the sessions and somehow make them available for download. We’ll see how all that goes.
an audio recording that can be heard online would be great. video is also good…but not nearly necessary.
by the way it looks…I think it would be a great tool for my church plants to use to help people interested in joining to “dial up” and hear for themselves “how” and “why” Baptists do the weird things we do.

Actually, my DOM Tom Owens offered to video tape it so that it could be a resource to the churches of the Cimarron Baptist Association.
I don’t know how much the video copies would cost, but I would be happy to offer them to church plants as they are seeking God’s vision on how they should operate as a church.
BTW, Immanuel just celebrated her fourth year. God has blessed this church plant!
Robin,
Do you think you can put a bug in Dr. Yarnell’s ear to offer extra credit to students who want to attend?
And when do you need an RSVP. I don’t start class until later this month, so I won’t know what my assignment calender will be like. But I am interested in attending if I don’t have assignments or tests around that time.

Talk with Dr. Yarnell. He just might approve it. Give him the schedule and what the topics will be on.
On the RSVP, we can take them up to the Wednesday (Feb. 20th) before the conference starts.
Robin, Can you help me understand the audience you plan to reach? Will it be mostly theologically educated? or will the material be that which any layperson desiring to know more about all things baptist can understand? selahV

This is targeted towards the lay person in the pews. Bart is a pastor that preaches each Sunday to lay people, Tom is a DOM who spent many years as a pastor, Jonathan has worked with churches, Bob Shelton goes to churches all the time talking about the cooperative program.
I have told all the men who our target audience is and they are gearing the information for the lay person as well as the pastor who shepherds them.
Thanks for the question
Bro. Robin
Robin,
Good luck with the conference. I pray that all goes well and Christ is glorified.
