Hats Off to Dr. Frank Page and the Great Commission Council

It is encouraging to learn of the overwhelming love and support for Drs. Paige and Dorothy Patterson that was expressed at the Great Commission Council meeting. The GCC members gave this support in view of what some members called an “unprecedented attack.” To see the full story, check out Baptist Press.

If only all Christians will join in building up instead of tearing down. May our energies be outspent on that which carries a message of hope, not a message of doom. May we focus on that which is pure and good and dwell on the best in each other. selahV

    Guys & Gals,

This is great news. What a great way to lead. Thank God that we have leaders that will stand and call for support and unity in this time of attacks.

    Blessings,
    Tim

  3. Trish says:

SelahV – I’m right there with you!

I pray that there will be changes of heart in all the people involved in pointing fingers and making accusations.

If a problem is known, each of us needs to remember we are dealing with brothers and sisters in Christ and we should deal with them the way Christ does. They are not the Pharisees who didn’t believe in Jesus and therefore they do not deserve for people to rant and rail at them publicly like some have claimed is ok. We are to do what it takes to show them their error and lovingly help them see the truth, praying for them and helping them confess and repent, restoring them to a right relationship with Christ. And we need to do this for everyone, not just the people we agree with and support, but even those we disagree with because they are still members of the family of God.

May we all remember this each day as we deal with the many problems Satan likes to throw in our paths and deter us from being the positive witnesses of the faith that we so desire to be.

    Blessings,
    Trish Reilly

I don’t have a side in all this debate, but it seems clear to me that if Dr. Patterson would just answer questions clearly and forthrightly like some of the other leaders have done most, if not all, of the stuff would go away. I have to believe that people can see that. That assumes, of course, that Ben Cole and the others at SBCOutpost are making mountains out of molehills. That makes me wonder why he doesn’t. So far as I can tell, no one on this blog or some of the others which staunchly defend him have advocated for answers to be forthcoming so everybody can get on with something else. Why not?

Many of the questions that some are desiring to be answered have been. Many don’t want to accept the answer. Other questions deal with employment issues that are not allowed to be commented. When I was in business, records on the employee and their performance were kept under lock and key. I could not discuss any of these issues with anyone in the store outside of management. SWBTS and Dr. Patterson are only following the law in regard to answering questions.

  6. John B. says:

    Scotty,

Listen to Russ Moore’s sermon in SWBTS chapel a week or so go. Maybe that will anwer your question about why Dr. Patterson has not said more than he has. Besides, given the vitriolic attacks that have been perpetrated against he and his wife, do you really think he could say anything whatsoever that would appease the sins of such hostility by those who have attacked him. “Avoid foolish disputes… for they are unprofitable and useless.” (Titus 3:9).

    John

After reading your comment, I believe I should have kept my mouth shut. You expressed what I felt, but was inadequate to express.

    Thanks

    Robin

  8. John B. says:

    Robin,

That is quite alright. Go in peace, your sins are… well, nevermind. Blessings, brother.

  10. selahV says:

    Volfan: when Jesus returns?

Perhaps Dr. Patterson is trying to imitate Jesus, did anyone ever think of that?

“When He was reviled and insulted, He did not revile or offer insult in return; when He was abused and suffered. He made no threats [of vengeance]; but He trusted [Himself and everything] to Him Who judges fairly.” I Pet. 2:23.

We might all do well to remember how Jesus showed us by example to do when others treat us unfairly (in our personal views). selahV

  11. Joe Stewart says:

I heard Dr Patterson say one time that every time someone attacked him for his stance on truth he did not issue a press release but he sent them a tie. He didn’t mention a name, but as I recall he said he sent one fellow twenty ties. I think he also said he saw the fellow at a press conference wearing a tie he bought just giving him the dickens. I remember this and echo Selah V’s comment that retaliation is often the devil’s scheme not God’s. Sometimes God is the only one that can protect our reputation before men. I’ve always found Dr. Patterson to be quick to respond to requests for information.
